Bangladesh made history by securing their first-ever Test victory against Pakistan, winning by 10 wickets in the first Test held in Rawalpindi on August 25, 2024. This victory marked Bangladesh's 20th Test win overall and their seventh away from home.
After Pakistan declared their first innings at 448/6, thanks to centuries from Mohammad Rizwan (171) and Saud Shakeel (141), Bangladesh responded strongly with a total of 565, led by Mushfiqur Rahim's 191. The Tigers gained a 117-run lead, and their bowlers, led by spinners Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Shakib Al Hasan, dismantled Pakistan for just 146 in their second innings. Bangladesh then easily chased the 30-run target in just 6.3 overs without losing a wicket.
This win not only broke a long-standing winless streak against Pakistan but also elevated Bangladesh above Pakistan in the ICC World Test Championship standings. The two teams will face off again in the second Test, starting August 30 at the same venue.
